Here are the different remedies that have helped many a child (and adult!) prevent the onset of travel sickness on many a journey.

Medications Available

Ask your pharmacist for advice and double check by reading the patient information leaflet that it is suitable for your child.

There are a number of medications available for purchase. They are mostly antihistamine anti nausea treatments.

Some commonly used options that we know of are -

Joy-Rides Tablets, chewable fruit flavoured tablets. Use from 3 years upwards.
Kwells Kids Tablets, Tablets for children over 4 years.
Kwells tablets, melt in the mouth tablets. Use from 10 years upwards.
Sea-Legs Tablets, for adults and children over 2 years.
Stugeron Tablets, Sucked or chewed. Use from 5 years upwards.

It is worth noting that antihistamines may cause paradoxical excitation in children, which wikipedia describes as a 'wired or excitable feeling'. Obviously you won't know if your child is affected in this way until you've actually tried the medication.

Non Medical Treatments

Sea-Bands Wrist Bands, using acupressure wrist bands, they are clinically proven alternative to travel-sickness medication. One size fits all. Suitable for adults and children from the age of 3 years.

Homeopathic Remedy

Though controversial and very much a personal choice they do come highly recommended by many experienced mum’s out there. Maybe it’s just the placebo effect - that’s ok by me, so long as it is safe and it helps!

Cocculine. A natural, homeopathic remedy suitable for children. Claims to provide relief of nausea and motion sickness with no side effects or contraindications. Fast acting, chewable tabs.
